Nyx and Lightsmith

Nyx and Lightsmith, a folk duo hailing from Ottawa, ON, bring a genuine and heartfelt approach to their music. Comprising of Ethan Mitchell and Maddy O’Regan, the duo draws on diverse influences from alternative, folk, and country. They cite artists like Alex G, Phoebe Bridgers, Nick Drake, Tom Waits as well as Gillian Welch, Colter Wall and Nick Shoulders among their recent inspirations.

Their songs deal with connection, emphasizing the shared human experience and reminding listeners that amidst life's challenges, no one is truly alone.

Having graced the stages of prominent Ottawa venues such as Irene's and Red Bird Live, Nyx and Lightsmith have established themselves as a respected presence in the local music scene. In 2023, they made their festival debut at the Ottawa Grassroots Festival, a milestone in their budding musical journey.

Maddy and Ethan have an ease on stage that is calming; the banter between songs, interesting, relaxed and informative. The guitar/ violin combination works very well. It was lovely to hear Maddy's violin solos nicely placed in well built compositions. Both have good voices and know how to use them as individuals and in harmony.
